At random: Dollar for dollar and man for man, the submarine is the country's most economical weapon. Comprising only 1.6 percent of the Navy's World War II personnel, the submarine service accounted for 55 percent of all enemy shipping destroyed.

The last of the concrete buildings, H barracks, for Navy recruits are being torn down at the old NTC.
The city hopes to use the land as a homeless shelter.

I was in that barracks in the summer of 1964. It was for new recruits during the first several weeks of training.

June 10, 1963 for me. Arrived in San Diego by train. Being a reserve, I already had my uniforms.

I was at NTC San Diego from June 17, 1964 until Sept 2, 1964. Company 336. Can't for the life of me remember the barracks I was in for either side of the bridge.
