SCHOLL .. .. Following a lengthy battle with cancer, William M. Scholl, age 80, of Bern Township, PA, died on December 22, 2023.
Beloved son and brother, Bill was a 1961 graduate of Governor Mifflin School District. He was a gifted athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track and field.
Son of William and Emily "Betty" Scholl of Shillington, Bill attended Penn State University. Later he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on one of the first nuclear submarines.
Following his military service, Bill worked for Bell Telephone for 19 years. He then worked for Berks Homes, and later retired from Berkco Properties in 2005.
Married for 52 years to his wife, Lynda, Bill was a loving husband, as well as a nurturing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bill is survived by his wife, Lynda, his brother, John, his son, Steven, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill loved telling stories from his life experiences, sharing all he had learned with children and adults alike.
Burial was held at the convenience of the immediate family. LEIDIG .. .. Leidig, Raymond Nov. 25, 1929 - Nov. 23, 2023 
Dr. Raymond Leidig, a man who gave voice to the mentally ill, developmentally disabled, and 
incarcerated, passed away on November 21, 2023. He was 93. 
Leidig was born on November 25, 1929, in New York City, NY, to Hertha Ladentin and later adopted by Karl Leidig. After graduating from Stroudsburg High School in Stroudsburg, PA, he enlisted in the US Navy in its Submarine Service. 
He attended the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, from which he received his Doctor of Medicine Degree. Leidig held many positions in Northern State Hospital, Sedro Wooley, WA culminating as Director of Psychiatric Services. 
Upon leaving that hospital he became Director of Snohomish County Mental Health Services. There he developed programs for a county of 265,000 residents who previously had no formal mental health program. He was instrumental in establishing the Community Mental Health movement in the United States. 
Ray moved to Boulder in 1973. He worked as a Psychiatric Consultant and Chief of the Division of Mental Health, Department of Institutions, and then as its Assistant Director. 
Governor Richard D. Lamm appointed Dr. Leidig Executive Director of the Department of Institutions, a Cabinet position he held from 1975-1981. After leaving the Directorship he worked as a psychiatrist for Boulder County Mental Health Center and as Medical Director of its Drug-Alcohol section. From 1983-1990, Leidig served as a National Consultant Surveyor for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. 
His memberships included the American Medical Association and the ACLU. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Leidig was an expert on Standards of Care in Mental Hospitals, Prisons and Jails. He always said that his life's work was providing a voice for those who had none. 
Ray was a man of many interests. He loved fishing, skiing, hiking, baseball, and theater and had an extensive stamp collection. Ray and Jill traveled extensively. He was affectionately called a "ding-a-ling" for his extensive bell collections. He also loved to sing and was a member of Generations Choir for many years. A very special group of men meet every Saturday morning to have breakfast and solve the problems of the world. It was a weekly event Ray wouldn't miss. 
Ray is survived by his wife, Jill London, Boulder, CO, and 6 children: Laurie Skipworth, Peter Leidig (Patty), Tim Leidig (Amy), Tom Stoll (Kimberly), Sara Spalding (Matt), Dick Charge (Ellen) and 13 grandchildren. 
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, January 13, 2024, in the Community House at Chautauqua Park,301 Morning Glory Drive, Boulder, CO 80302 from 1-4 PM. A time of reflection will begin at 2 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the ACLU of Colorado or the Southern Poverty Law Center.

MILNARIK .. .. Quaker Hill - Ricky P. "Rick" Milnarik, 76, of Quaker Hill, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023. He was born to Helen (Zalesny) Milnarik and Michael Milnarik July 27, 1947, in Yonkers, N.Y., and was married to Donna (Spicer) Milnarik of Preston May 15, 1982.
Rick served 23 years in the U.S. Navy followed by a 30-year career at Electric Boat retiring as a principal engineer. He enlisted in the Navy in 1964 and retired as a chief warrant officer in 1988. His naval career started when Rick reported for duty on the USS Sablefish followed by the USS Tinosa, the USS Nautilus, Naval Submarine School advanced weapons training instructor, the USS Minneapolis St. Paul, and the USS Fulton on which he served as the weapons officer. Rick was a qualified Navy diver and was on the crew that decommissioned the Nautilus in 1980.
In addition to his career, Rick was a member of the National Safety Council which allowed him the opportunity to serve as a keynote speaker at NASA and teach a yearly class at MIT. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and he served as a board member on the Connecticut Down Syndrome Congress. In his younger years, Rick's hobbies included skydiving, drag racing and running marathons. He enjoyed being outdoors and working in his yard at home.
Rick was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife Donna; his two sons, Philip Milnarik and Andrew Milnarik; brother Robert Minarik of Pennsylvania; nephew Michael Milnarik and wife Sanae Kanda; sisters-in-law, Michele Spicer, Bev (Spicer) Bordner and husband Tom Bordner, brother-in-law Parke Spicer II; along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville. A Friday service will be held at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Preston.

FOOTE .. .. Emerson Lee Foote, a resident of Porters Neck Village in Wilmington, NC since 2005, was born in St Louis, MO on September 2, 1922 – the son of Samuel E and Doris Annette Foote. He graduated from Webster Groves High School and Washington University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a commissioned US Navy officer, and spent World War II in the submarine service with assignments in the Pacific theater. He married Rosemary Kehoe in 1944 and had four children: Emerson Lee Jr, Carroll, Randall, and Barbara (deceased). Emerson moved to the Baltimore area employed by Glenn L. Martin Company in the aircraft design division, and then had an outstanding career in test and evaluation of military weapons at Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG), MD. He advised the US Department of Defense, various US Defense Industry companies, and multiple allied countries regarding military hardware design, advanced technology test equipment, and construction of testing & proving grounds/facilities. He managed a team of 200 engineers, scientists and technicians to evaluate and improve weaponry in world-wide locations. His career included 35 years at APG, where he was president of the Twenty-Five Year Club, four years with Test and Evaluation International, and two years as an independent consultant. He was listed in the Federal Executive Registry (a national talent bank).
Emerson was active in sports in school, was an Eagle Scout, and as an adult scouter was a Commissioner, a Troop Committee Chairman, and a Troop Scout Master. He was also Chairman of the Aberdeen Election Board. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending summers at the beach. The Footes traveled extensively for pleasure. At Porters Neck Village, Emerson served on the residents’ Board of Directors, and as the President of the Resident Council. He was active in the Memorial Fund and in campus modernization.
Emerson was pre-deceased by his wife of 67 years, Rosemary. He is survived by sons Emerson Foote and Randall Foote and daughter Carroll Downing. He has five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
