ENELL ... .. .Cold War Submarine Veteran, Randall Wayne Enell, 76, passed away Dec. 5, 2023. His family was the light of his life!
Randy spent 6 years in the Navy as a missile technician on a ballistic missile submarine, the SSBN-656 George Washington Carver. Randy’s crew was the only crew that successfully shot off a ballistic missile during a DASO missile test launch in Florida.
He was quite the conversationist and would talk with anyone! Many times, as Randy and I, Betty Jo, walked together, I would turn around and he would be way behind in a conversation with someone we passed. He volunteered at Four Points Senior Center to drive seniors to appointments; lots of conversation went on during those drives.
Randy enjoyed golfing with his buddies, reading (a regular at The Book Cellar), playing cards (always saying he’s never been beat), watching sports (coaching football and soccer when his sons were young), going to college/school sporting events), fishing, occasional casino play, being a Deacon at The First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven as well as helping out with events.
Randy’s parents, Lester and Annabell, and younger sister, Cindy (Lucinda), preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo (Mapes), of 55 years (plus 5 years dating); sons Dean (Andi) and Rob (Thai); grandchildren Henry (9 1/2) and Oscar (1); sisters, Leslie and Sandi; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

DAVIES .. .. .Brian Llewellyn Davies (Rear Admiral, United States Navy) died peacefully at home in Norfolk, Virginia, on December 30, 2023, after a five-and-a-half-year battle with Ocular Melanoma.
Brian was born on November 5, 1969, in Wilmington, Delaware. He attended the United States Naval Academy where he was a Trident Scholar and earned a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering in 1991. A member of the 27th Company and an accomplished coxswain on the USNA crew team, Brian maintained lifelong friendships with his classmates and teammates. Following his time at the Naval Academy, he earned a Master of Science in Acoustics from the Pennsylvania State University.
Brian proudly served as a U.S. Navy Submarine Officer for more than 32 years, with assignments on both fast attack and ballistic missile submarines. As commanding officer of the USS Jimmy Carter, he led a crew of 200 sailors while out of communication with the rest of the world for months at a time. Brian demonstrated a quiet competence, steadfastness, and devotion that drew others to him as a true leader. He later served as Commodore, Submarine Squadron ELEVEN, and as a flag officer, he was Commander, Submarine Group TWO with additional duties as Deputy Commander, Second Fleet. Brian accepted any challenge and was regarded as a professional who took work seriously but did not take himself too seriously.
Brian's decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, and Legion of Merit (five awards), among many others. Throughout his career, he was known for his integrity and kindness. Brian was an empathetic, caring leader who always helped those around him and looked out for their well-being. He truly was a "Sailor's Sailor."
An avid runner, Brian found happiness and peace on the trails, on the roads, and on a treadmill in a submarine beneath the depths. He shared his joy in running with family and friends over many miles, from 5ks to 50-mile ultramarathons. Brian loved Orioles baseball - whether listening to a game on the radio, watching a game in the ballpark, or just chatting baseball with his dad.
Brian was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend. He had a warm smile and a contagious laughter, and relished quality time with his loved ones. Brian always saw the good in others. He was faithful, gracious, and exuded positivity in every facet of his life. Brian was a shining light who made a profound difference in the lives of many.
Brian is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kacey Hickey Davies; daughter, Caitlin Elizabeth Davies; mother and father, Sandy and Harry Davies; brother, Keith Davies (Bianca); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Brian was loved by many who will forever miss his earthly presence.

MUMLEY .. .. Michael Roland Mumley Sr.
Knoxville, Tennessee - Ahoy there, mates! Michael Roland Mumley Sr., affectionately known as Pops and Papa, has set sail on his final voyage on January 3, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on January 29, 1945, in Burlington, Vermont, he was the proud captain of his own destiny.

Michael served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy for a whopping 20 years. He navigated the treacherous waters aboard submarines like the legendary USS Raton, USS Stimpson, and USS Rayburn. A true submariner, he even taught his fellow Sailors as an instructor at the Basic Submarine School. After retiring as a Chief in 1983, Michael continued his love affair with the Navy by working at the Power Plant on the submarine base in Groton, CT.

But that's not all! Michael had more tricks up his sleeve. He decided to chart a new course and pursue his passion for antiques. With an eye sharper than a seagull spotting a fish, he opened an antique shop and became the captain of collecting hidden treasures. From broken chairs to random lamp shades, he saw the value in things others overlooked. He even had a knack for finding gems by the side of the road and made a pilgrimage to the recycle center at the dump in Richmond. Now that's what we call a true treasure hunter!

In the midst of his adventures, Michael and his first mate, Jean (Bear), embarked on a new
journey as the proprietors of the 1804 Potter House Bed and Breakfast. They welcomed countless guests, feeding and entertaining them with warm hospitality. And just when you thought he couldn't surprise you any further, Michael discovered his true passion for navigating the roads as a school bus driver. Parents and kids alike adored him, but alas, Parkinson's disease brought his bus-driving days to an end. Ever resourceful, he turned his attention back to his beloved collection of hidden treasures.

While Michael's heart was as big as the ocean, his faith anchored him in various Baptist Churches throughout his life. And let's not forget his role as a Bible teacher to his fellow Sailors during his submarine days. He truly had a heavenly connection!

When he wasn't busy conquering the seas or unearthing forgotten gems, Michael enjoyed a good round of bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, poker, cribbage, and indulging his passion for collecting used things. He had a knack for turning the old into gold!

Michael leaves behind his beloved wife, Jean Mumley, of 60 years who was his anchor in life's storms. He also leaves behind his children Lori, Michael Jr., and Brian, his brother David McKinstry, his 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. His memory will forever sail on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
