Can't remember the movie but I think it was Hunt for Red October. Anyhow they talked about finding the Russian and how hard it was because of the catepillar drive. Well, there is a story out today where the U.S. Navy has outfitted the USS Montana SSN-794 with the magnetohydrodynamic drive (MHD). First of it's kins and promises to make the submarine viturally undectable, the holy grail of naval warfare. Montana is scheduled to undergo sea trials on the Penobscot River in Maine soon. |

I had read the book Red October in 1984 and it gave a detailed description of this idea of caterpillar drive. In the movie, I believe it was described as silent but something different which is what I think the current article is about.
