MAYTAS .. .. .. James E. Maytas Jr., 55, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his home.
Jim was born July 17, 1968, in Youngstown, a son of James and Donna Aey Maytas.
He graduated from Struthers High School in 1986. After graduation, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1987 to 1993 and during the Gulf War. He served on the USS Portsmouth (SSN 707) submarine. During his time in the military, Jim received the Navy Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; the Navy “E” Award; letters of commendation; and the enlisted Submarine Service Insignia, and the enlisted Scuba Diver Insignia.
After his time in the service, Jim worked as a financial manager for several dealerships in California before returning to the Mahoning Valley. He worked as a financial manager for Mark Thomas Ford in Cortland for seven years before his weightlifting accident which left him a quadriplegic in 2011. Before his accident, Jim enjoyed motorbiking and dancing. In his free time, Jim enjoyed painting and drawing. 
Jim was a devoted son, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed spending time with his family and enjoyed hosting friends and family at his home.
Jim is survived by his mother, Donna J. Maytas of Struthers; three children, Christopher J. Maytas of Boardman, Gabriella (Shawn Mellott) Maytas of Austintown and Jeremy D. Maytas of Providence, Rhode Island; and a grandson, Cylus A. Mellott; a brother, Christopher (George L. Chako Jr. ) Maytas of Akron; and a sister, Kimberly (Martin Planey) Maytas of Austintown; his former wife, Margaret A. Maytas of Providence, Rhode Island; four nieces, Hannah Planey, Abigail Planey, Madalyn Planey and his goddaughter, Kara Planey, all of Austintown; and dear friends, George T. (Beth) Syrianoudis of Canfield, Mike (Tanya) Floros of California, Todd (Wendy) Kennedy of Palm Coast, Florida, and Amber Rouse of Austintown.
Besides his father, James E. Maytas Sr., Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Sophia Rose Maytas.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers. 
A prayer service will begin at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers, with the Rev. Fr. Philip Rogers officiating. Military honors will follow, at the church.
The family would like to thank Jim’s caregivers, Sandy, Berta and Desiree, for the love, care and support they gave Jim and his family during this time.

Richard H. "Dick" Stanton, 80, of Oneida Valley, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Oneida Health Hospital after a hard fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born on June 25, 1943, in Oneida, the son of Frank H. and June (Hoyt) Stanton. Dick was a 1961 graduate of Oneida High School.
On January 3, 1962, Dick enlisted into the United States Navy proudly serving on the submarine, U.S.S. Cobbler until his honorable discharge on May 2, 1966.
On January 10, 1969, Dick was united in marriage to Bonnie Wilbur in the First United Methodist Church in Oneida.
Dick was the co-owner and operator of Stanton Paper Box Company for forty years, retiring in 2003.
A lifelong resident of Oneida, he was of the Presbyterian faith. An avid golfer, he was a charter member of Kanon Valley Country Club. He was a life member of the Oneida B.P.O.E. Lodge #767 and Oneida American Legion Post 169. An active outdoorsman, his greatest love was fishing on Oneida Lake.
Surviving besides his loving wife of fifty-five years, Bonnie; are a daughter, Heidi Jai (Jon) Stanton-Drew, of Ellsworth, ME; his siblings, Nancy (John) Roberts, of FL and MI, Thomas Stanton, of Durhamville, and Patricia (Billy) Wood, of Floresville, TX; and several nieces and nephews; and not to forget all the "Crazy Wilburs."
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida. Interment will take place in Valley View Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Monday prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oneida Elks Lodge Building Fund, 191 Main St., Oneida, NY, 13421.
