At random: Habitability is heavily stressed in the construction of modern submarines. Specially designed color schemes, mechanical conveniences, air conditioning, and the best chow in the Navy are supplied to make the vessels more livable. A full time staff is maintained by Electric Boat Division to work out 'human engineering' problems.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

SWANSON .. .. .. Warren Russell Swanson, age 55, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, in Iraq. Born in Rockford Illinois on April 17, 1968, to the late Leslie Swanson and Margaret (Young) Swanson. Warren is a US Navy Submarine Veteran who served from 1986 to 1994. After leaving the Navy, Warren was an over the road truck driver until 2004 when he began his career in aviation as an avionics technician. He started at Aero Contractors in 2004 and worked until 2015 when he joined ATK Northrop Grumman. Warren was married to his loving wife Laura (Millett) Swanson for 32 years.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:00p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Military Honors will be performed by the US Navy Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Laura Swanson, sons; Aarron Swanson of Smithfield, Warren Swanson Jr. of Smithfield, daughter, Margaret Swanson of Smithfield, brother, Alva Swanson of NH, sisters; Carolyn Schuring of IL, Beth Swanson of AZ, Sarah Hagen of AZ, and Amy Montgomery of AZ, as well as several cousins, nephews, and nieces.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Ron Brown and Tony Eubanks and his dear friends and coworkers from Northrop Grumman.


BURKE .. .. .. James (Jim) Garry Burke died on December 14, 2022. He was born in Brooklyn on March 8, 1943, and grew up in Mount Lebanon, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Mount Lebanon High School and attended the University of Wisconsin where he majored in electrical engineering and minored in nuclear engineering. Soon after his graduation, he became a naval officer serving on nuclear submarines from 1966 until 1974. He left the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1974 and entered Harvard Business School, graduating with an MBA in 1976. After receiving his MBA, he worked at several Silicon Valley firms, most recently he was the CFO at Alteon Web Systems and prior to that he was the CFO of C-Cube Microsystems. He lived in Aptos California for many years, and is survived by his wife Dian Warnecke Burke and a son James and his wife Karen and three grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan, and Evan. His son, Andrew predeceased him.
