BAILEY, Daniel L., CAPT, USN, Ret., 83, ended his long struggle with Parkinson's disease March 5, 2008. Born in Huntsville, Ala., to Harry and Lois Bailey in 1924, Dan attended Auburn for a year and was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1947. His naval career of three decades consisted of 16 years of submarine duty, including command of the USS Barracuda (SST-3), followed by 10 years of shore duty, much of this spent at the Pentagon. After his 1975 retirement in Norfolk, Dan served as president of a wine distributorship and ended his civilian career working in various defense contracting capacities. Dan was known for his love of people, his sense of humor and his love of life in general. He was a wonderful father, always there to help his children and was greatly loved by his family. He was a much-loved father and grandfather, whose loss leaves a great void in the heart of his family. He was predeceased by Virginia Willcox Bailey, his beloved wife of 55 years, and his grandson, Daniel L. Bailey III. He leaves behind three children, his son, Daniel L. Bailey Jr. and wife Timmie of Conyers, Ga.; his son, Willcox K. Bailey and wife Karen of Norfolk; and his daughter, Virginia C. Bailey King and husband Robert of Lynchburg; and six granddaughters, Ryan, Courtney, Whitney, Carter, Virginia and Madison. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Christ & St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Norfolk, with interment in the columbarium immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters/Circle of Hope, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.


HIXON, Sr.,. David William, 44, of Summerville, husband of Darlene Lilly McIntosh Hixon died Wednesday, March 5, 2008. David was born October 22, 1963 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph and Dorothy McBurnie Hixon. He was a graduate of Jefferson Morgan High School, Jefferson, Pennsylvania. He served as a Submariner in the United States Navy. David was employed as a Driver with Land Transportation and was a member of Scots Kirk Presbyterian Church. He was an avent member of the Harley Owners Group. Surviving in addition to his wife are, daughter and sons, Cassandra Jo Hixon, David William Hixon, Jr., and Harrison Cody Hixon all of Summerville; one sister, Donna Jean Hixon Skobel of Summerville; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 9, 2008 at 2 o'clock at Summerville Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be private. Friends may call at James A.
