Subject: More orders from the Navy - NSR

I just received a new set of orders in the mail from the DON. They officially transfer me to IRR status effective 13 Mar 08. YES!!
Although my EOS obligation isn't until 29 Aug 09, the Navy has decided I have fullfilled my Reserve contract. Considering I spent about 3.5 of the last 6 years on various orders, I'd say I more than satisfied my obligation. It was a good run, I met many wonderful people and learned so much about myself and my abilities as a human being, but I am glad it is over!!!

Guess I will have to find a more civilian looking picture to use here.....and no Stoops, it aint gonna be the orange bikini/Ramjet pic either!

Way to go, Daisey,

Any decision yet on whether you'll stay in the Reserves?

Whatever you decide, congratulations and thank you for your service to our great country.

You've paid your dues.

Thank you sincerely for your service.

I am amazed repeatedly. As I gaze of the younger and younger generation how beautiful they are. As a father of three girls all I can say is, Thank god our girls got their good looks from our beautiful wives.

I think I may of confused some by my post, so allow me to clarify....

With no prior service, I joined the Navy Reserves in August 2001. I enlisted for an 8 year term, with the option of transferring to the IRR (Inactive Reserves) after 72 months as a drilling Reservist (weekend warrior). During this time, I volunteered for various orders, which when combined, gave me a little over 3.5 years of active duty time. So in other words, more than half of my required "week-end warrior" time was actually spent on active duty orders. Instead of just doing one weekend a month for 72 months, then transferring to the IRR (Inactive Reserves), I did 79 months, of which nearly 44 months was spent on some type of active duty orders.

On December 11, 2006, I was fully mobilized for an active duty billet for a term not to exceed 24 months. On December 21, 2007, I was demobilized after completing just over a year as a full-time Instructor at the Navy Security Forces Academy (old MA "A" school). I had the option at that time to transfer to the IRR, but opted to continue as a drilling Reservist and reported back to my old unit the 2nd weekend in January of this year. At my second drill weekend in February, I decided I did not like the changes that had taken place in my unit while I was gone. The CoC was ....how do I say it....PISS POOR, so at my drill weekend in March, I routed my paperwork requesting transfer to the IRR. It was approved and I will serve the remainding 17 months in the IRR. I will report via electronic survey one time next March, then once again in August 2009 so I can received my Honorable discharge certificate.

Of course I must keep my uniforms current in case I am involuntarily recalled, but the chances of that happening are slim to none as my previous mobilization was what they call Presidential Recall, so the Navy cannot call on me for a minimum of 5 years.

So my Navy career, for all practical purposes, is finished. I enjoyed most all of it, but now I am on to bigger and better things!!!
I returned to my civilian job with the Texas Attorney General's office in January but recently applied and interviewed for a position with the Texas Veterans Commission. I received a call yesterday asking me if I could start on April 9th!!! I am getting totally away from the Criminal Justice career field and starting a career doing something that is very near and dear to my heart. Assisting Veterans!! Imagine that, I'm still following in my Dad's footsteps, except I will actually draw a paycheck for what I will be doing....... Life is definately GOOD!!!!!
