At random: "I propose to you a new arm of war, as formidable as it is economical. Submarine navigation, which has been sometimes attempted, but as all know without results, owing to want of suitable opportunities, is now a problematical thing no more." - Brutus de Villeroi in a letter to President Lincoln, 1862

and while it had sort of become a routine ritual, I stopped and watched it wave for a minute or so and realized again how much that flag means to me. And all of a sudden, the song, "You're a Grand Old Flag" threw itself into my consciousness......

Anyone else out there remember the song and the words to it? I haven't heard it for years...but I think it is about time for it to become popular again.

We had to learn it in High School Chorus. I tend to hear Johnny Cash's "Ragged Old Flag" when I raise or lower mine.
