Again I need some help….

I will soon be able to start with my up dates to “BESSPHOTOS” and the “ATULE” sites.   I was given the go-ahead about a month ago, but it was too soon.

Since then I’ve been thinking (and yes that hurts).  I use the following on my computer:

Windows XP,  MS Office 2003 Pro,  MS FrontPage 2003,  HOW EVER?????????????

Microsoft has dropped MS FrontPage.  So what now?  Does anyone know if FrontPage will work with MS Vista?

Can I just keep using what I have and just continue doing what I am doing?  What’s the downside if any?

Using another program to “re-build” my sites is just about out of the question. As you know I have the USS Atule SS-403, and the BESS sites. They would be a major endeavor to create in another program. (I have over 800 Photos) I would say that would fit the Sub Related clause.

I hope that you can understand my ramblings

If you have the time and patience, all you need are the following 5 things:

1) This book: HTML, XHTML, and CSS, Sixth Edition by Elizabeth Castro
$23 at Amazon.com

2) notepad.exe found in C:\WINDOWS\System32 on your hard drive.

3) W3Schools Online Web Tutorials
http://www.w3schools.com/

4) The W3c Markup Validation Service - this is how you check your work to make sure it's correct!
http://validator.w3.org/

5) AnyBrowser.com - lets you view your webpages as people with different screen resolutions using different web browsers would. It also has a tool that checks all the links on your page to make sure they are valid.

But that's only if you really want to create HTML on your own. It's really not that hard, especially with that book. I still own the 1st edition of that book, back when it was tiny.

If you want to still use WYSIWYG software, keep on using the last version of FrontPage (I'm sure it works fine with Vista), or try one of the new webpage creators that Microsoft offers or will be offering, or try CoffeeCup HTML Editor. I never cared much for CoffeeCup, but many swear by it. I just swear AT it.

Gary,

I run Sea Monkey (by Mozilla) that has an excellent composer feature.

Can download here http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/

However, my main page editor is the last NETSCAPE (before AOL ate them). I only use its composer feature andi it still serves me well. I only do straightup HTML pages so it works OK for my purposes. I can email the program to you if you want it.

Thanks Guy’s,

I just don’t want to start from scratch with a new program.  I’m way behind with the BESS Site but have started back to work with the new photos.  I still wear a hard hat due to the many complaints because I’m still slow, but I will catch-up.

http://www.realtime-vista.com/news/2007/05/vista_application_compatibilit_1.htm

the link above has a bunch of people talking about problems with Vista+FrontPage.

If I were you, I'd stick with XP & FrontPage. You can still buy XP with a new machine if you feel you need a new one.

Regards, Coyote
