At random: Probably the most expensive ballast ever carried by a ship was two tons of gold and eighteen tons of silver coins carried by the U.S. submarine TROUT while on a trip from Corregidor to Pearl Harbor early in World War II. TROUT had removed her moveable ballast to allow for a larger cargo of ammunition to be transported for the defenders on the embattled island. Lcdr. Fenno, TROUT's CO, planned on replacing the ballast with sand bags, but found none were available. The gold and silver from the Bank of the Philippines was substituted as ballast, which also solved the problem of removing the treasure to a safe place prior to invasion by the enemy.

Well we saved that periscope handle from being sold on eBay to some oblivious entity HOWEVER now it needs you experts to I.D. it for us.  The flat plate that was of concern contained what appears to be a large leaf spring arrangement.  The numbers of which are shown here "and" are in sequence with the mounting plate numbering.  It goes; #34228-547D002420 for the base, ditto -C002815 for the leaf spring cover and ditto - B003275 for the "leaf spring".  Need smeone with the right reference to check the Mod/Model of this beast so it can be donated with it's proper nomenclature...

John - suggest you contact Kollmorgen Corp as they manufactured the overwhelming majority of optical US sub scopes. The numbers don't appear to have a NSN or FSN format so I'd guess they are probably manufacturer's numbers.

Those are the manufactures parts numbers, without a parts manual I won't guess as to which type it goes to
