At random: Among the 'first' that Electric Boat Division has introduced into American submarines, have been the marine Diesel engine, the perfected use of the storage battery, the combination of battery and internal combustion engine, and the world's first adaptation of nuclear energy to propulsion in the USS NAUTILUS.

Speaking of the Tresher, has anyone heard from "Baby Sis" lately?

The USS STERLET (SS392) Association would like to add on this sad and memorable day our
prayers to the families of LT Mike Dinola and QMC(SS) Aaron "Jackie" Gunter who left the Sterlet
to serve on the Thresher together (they were best friends) and sadly were lost on this fateful
day April 10, 1963. It is hard to imagine that it was 45 years ago today.

We know that future generations of Sterlet families will know that we will not forget there service
to the SS392 but also to the submarine service and their country. It is fitting that tomorrow is
also our 108th Anniversary --- "May their memories endure as does "God"s blessing".

It is so hard to find the right words sometimes to reflect the true meaning of "Love" and that
is what we in the Submarine Family do and share

Tearfully and Sadly

Dick Jarenski YN1(SS)
USS STERLET (SS392) Association Commander/Secretary
Vice Commander White Mountain Base

A copy of this will be sent to all that served with them during 1956-57 on the Sterlet

Where were you on this tragic day and what was you doing?

I was on an airplane with RADM Ramage returning from Key West after an admin inspection on the Bushnel. The plane was ordered to land in Va.and the admiral departed the plane. We did not know of the THRESHER until we landed back in New London.
I was on DEPUTYSUBLANT staff as the force Firecontrolman at the time.A very sad day for me as I too lost several shipmates that day.

God Bless all thier souls!!
