At random: "Again I ask, who really are our Hero’s? They are the men who have, since the first day of our great country, left their families and friends and gone to war asking for nothing and giving all." -- Gary Walker

USS Thresher Plunges to Her Doom
On this day in 1963, the Navy lost the submarine USS Thresher and its 129-man crew to the depths of the Atlantic ocean.

This happened 5 days before I graduated from Boot Camp. It hit me hard then as I was headed for submarine duty. After spending a few years aboard the boats I can no longer watch any of the Thresher or Scorpion photos. I find it too moving to think of what those guys must have gone through.
