FUNKHOUSER, James Delford, 91, died April 14, 2008 at Consulate Health Care. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008, 4:00 PM at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock by Rev. Sharon Waters. Burial will follow at Zion Christian Church Cemetery. Mr. Funkhouser was born January 11, 1917 at Strasburg, Virginia. He was the son of the late Frank and Barbara Beeler Funkhouser. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the submarine service during World War II aboard the USS Blower (SS-325). He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He retired as a bus operator with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority with thirty years of service. Mr. Funkhouser is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Hockman Funkhouser; a brother, Charles Funk-houser of Strasburg; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 8 PM at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock. Pallbearers will be Allen Kibler, Leslie Hockman, Keith Smith, Craig Smith, William Gallucci, and Randy Hockman. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Kibler, Karla Funkhouser, Roberta Kibler, and Leonard Rosenberger.


GOODRICH, Jr., Albion Wallace "Albie", of Kittery ME, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, following a brief battle with cancer. Albion was born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Sept. 21, 1939. He was the devoted son of Albion W. Goodrich Sr. and Roberta S. "Bobbie" (Whitten) Goodrich, the oldest of seven children. He married Marilyn McKenney on April 17, 1960, and raised a healthy and happy family in York. Albion graduated from Portsmouth High School in June 1957 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, active from 1959 to 1962. After the Navy, Albion served as sheetmetal tradesmen in Union Hall 17, 545 and 297. Along with wife Marilyn, he owned and operated the Mic-Mac Motel located in York for over 30 years. Albion served his family, friends and community with devotion, faith, pride and respect. Always active in the community, Albion coached baseball, football and hockey through youth programs to junior high and high school levels for over 40 years. Albion is recognized for starting the York Youth Hockey program in 1970, along with the help of others. Most recently, Albion assisted the York High School baseball program. Most of all, he loved his family, friends and community with all his heart. Albion was always available to listen to a friend or stranger. He strived to be a positive and a good role model. Albion's passion for local history and preserving those honorable soldiers from civil war was instrumental in identifying names of local soldiers that fought in the civil war. These soldiers are now recognized and not forgotten. He was a proud member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans, Thresher base and Legion Post 56. Albion belonged to many organizations, such as the York Community Service-Rotary, Moose Lodge, York Food Pantry, Youth Bible Studies and USN Submarine Veterans. Albion is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (McKenney) Goodrich of 48 years; daughter Christine A. Goodrich Blasi of Kittery; sons Sean and Shannon Goodrich of San Diego, Calif.; a clan of grandchildren, Brianna and Brittney Blasi of Kittery, and Alden, Whitten, Sawyer and Morgan Osborne-Goodrich of San Diego, Calif.; great-grandchildren Sophia and Jacob Blasi; brothers Robert A. Goodrich of Portsmouth, Kenneth J. Goodrich of Brookfield and John C. Goodrich of Dover; and sisters Katherine E. Scammon of Florida, Karen M. Firment of North Carolina and Margaret Barnett of Florida. A memorial service for Albion will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Middle Street Baptist Church, 18 Court St., Portsmouth. Burial will be in the First Parish Cemetery, York, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the York Community Service Association, P.O. Box 85, Cape Neddick, ME 03902.
