At random: Habitability is heavily stressed in the construction of modern submarines. Specially designed color schemes, mechanical conveniences, air conditioning, and the best chow in the Navy are supplied to make the vessels more livable. A full time staff is maintained by Electric Boat Division to work out 'human engineering' problems.

ANZAC Day here in Oz a most solemn day to remember our Veterans and those who lost their life in War but most of all the coming of age of Australia and New Zealand on the terrible shores of Gallipolli all those many years ago.

They shall grow not Old,
As we who are left grow Old,
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn,
at the Going down of the Sun,
And in the morning,
"We Will Remember Them"

...Just got back from my day out.

Started off with the Dawn Service at Rockingham with Keith Howe and Dave Coleman....then we had a breakfast at Keith's place.

I then caught the train( free of course as I was wearing my medals) up to Perth for the March and Service. Caught up with an old school mate who did 23 years in the R.A.A.F. and had a few wdrinks at the Moon and Sixpence.

I then trained it down to Warnbro and headed to the PT Kennedy R.S.L. from around 2pm ish....just got back at 9pm ish...what a great day!

Drinking with old shipmates from the Squadron and the odd Skimmer or three that I had the pleasure to meet along the way....what a great day!!

Shame I have to sober up now and get ready for work tomorrow!

groan......

To all of the veterans, families, and friends of veterans of the Armed Forces in Australia I extend my prayers ad best wishes on this, your special day.

In January at the start of our one month holiday in Australia/New Zealand Sue and I started
our trip with a solemn visit to the Anzac Memorial in Sydney. While there the director Pricky
Rea (his nickname in the service) estowed upon me his Australian Submarine Dolphins. these
I proudly put on my USSVI Vest I was wearing next to my US silver dolphins. I proudl y now
wear them both to all my Submarine Vets occassions and they are a tribute to all of you that
served in the submarine force.

I hae just sent the museum several movies for their members and visitors, along with some
USSVI AND Sterlet patches as a thank you for them making our visit so memorable and
meaningful.

I urge anyone going to Australia to visit the many submarine sites there especially the
Anza Memorial in Sydney.

Again congratulations to you on your VERY SPECIAL ANZAC DAYS as we solemnly pray
and remember your departed shipmates.

Commander/Secretary USS STERLET (SS392) Association
Vice Cdr White Mountain Base USSVI

Congratulations....Australia and New Zealand, and thanks for being our allies......When the former RN cruiser then RNZ
Black Prince.......(I think) came to USN test range facilities at Pearl Harbor for a workup, she shot one of the top scores
we'd ever seen there.......40 odd years ago........how I learned about SWAN Lager.....Thanks for the memory....we acted as host ship for part of the time.
cheers,
TCM

There's another glorious place to observe Anzac - the War Memorial in King's Park, Perth WA.

All the best to our friends in OZ & NZ.

...there was 40,000 people at the Dawn Service this year at Kings Park as there was last year when I took Daniel with me.

Great view point of the Swan River and to the left, the City of Perth.
