At random: "Submariners are a bunch of intelligent misfits that somehow seem to get along, understand each other and work well together.” -- Red Hanley who overheard a skimmer officer say this while talking to a non-navy type

Subject: This Day in History

You may have been wondering about today feeling like something was amiss. Something you had forgotten that kept bothering you. Well today the 27th of April 1822 was the day that Ulysses S. Grant was born and also the day in 1963 that he had completed the first phase of his deployment of troops and equipment across the Mississippi to New Carthage for what would eventually sound the death nell of Vicksburg and the turning of the tide that would end the Civil War. No it wasn't Gettyburg it was Vicksburg that rang the bell! Now those of us who have Southern heritage in our liniage would just a soon forget that last bit, but history is history.

Seems like yesterday. Actually, the 1963 should be 1863. Today, I feel old enough to have been there in 1863. Strained the back yesterday doing "honey-do's".

Sounds like a good idea to me. We've got to wait for Doc Gardner to heal though. Ain't no way on God's green earth that I'd let Doc Beeghly whittle on me. He might try and rearrange the location of various parts as a joke. He does have that strange sense of humor don't cha know.

I'm on the way; but these crutches don't let me walk too quick.

Looks as though you're buildin' up to a good excuse to never do "Honey-do's" again.

I can sympathize with you. I've been dealing (kinda unsuccessfully) with back problems for over 20 years, ever since I had the first of my four (yeah, 4) failed back surgeries. I want my twenty-year-old body back!!! Please, God. This time I'll appreciate it.

I'll drink to that; and also to your swift recovery.

And one more for the road. Hic!!

Thanks Cora and you may have uncovered my plan,
Doc, no need to hurry. I've been living with this since '63 when I tried to wrestle a F-M cyliner liner across the brow by myself. Ah, the things we use to do when we were young and foolish.

You're right, Ralph. Heck, we're lucky to have got this far after some of the stuff we did. Take it easy for a few days.

Now Ralph, all us old Charleston sailors have heard the tail about you trying to wrestle that chimpanzee down at the Dew Drop Inn on Thursday night. Fairbanks Morse my butt.

Walt, you were suppose to keep that quiet. You're going to ruin OUR reputations with the ladies on this bbs and to get back to what RCK posted----Now those of us who have Southern heritage in our liniage would just a soon forget that last bit, but history is history.
Cheers mates!!!!
