PEVEAR, Corning, 83, of Marblehead, MA died Monday, April 29, 2008 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Selwyn R. and Florence G. (Corning) Pevear. Mr. Pevear was a stockbroker for Paine Webber and Morgan Stanley retiring at age 75. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School and Suffolk University. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy Submarine Service on the USS Gar (SS-206) and USS Flying Fish (SS-229). Mr. Pevear was an active and long-time member of the Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge, the US Submarine Veterans Inc., the Washington Street Baptist Church in Lynn where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Thursday Morning Men's Breakfast at the Union Club in Boston. He is survived by his sister, Elisabeth Pevear of Marblehead and predeceased by his brother, Roger Pevear. Mr. Pevear is also survived by his sister-in-law, Vera Pevear of Peabody; his nieces, Carolanne Pevear of Lynnfield, Suzanne Pevear and husband Larry O'Toole of Beverly; his nephew, David Pevear and wife Maura of Wakefield; as well as his grand nieces and nephews, Tom, Dan, Marybeth, Annie Rose and Matt. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at the Washington Street Baptist Church, 256 Washington St., Lynn. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 2, at the Eustis-Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm St., Marblehead. McDOWELL, Sr., Joseph George, MCPO, USN, Ret., 65, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at his residence on the NAS Joint Reserve Base, Belle Chasse. A native of Scranton, PA and a resident of Belle Chasse, LA, Master Chief McDowell was with the United States Navy for 27 years and served as the Command Chief with the Submarine Group 16 in Kings Bay, GA. He retired from Rockwell International and was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. Joseph was also an avid volunteer with several organizations. Beloved husband of Suzette LaStrapes "Suzie" McDowell. Loving father of Joseph (Karen) George "Jo Jo" McDowell, Jr., Kirby (Burcu) Louis McDowell and Christopher (Sharon) David "Chris" McDowell. Son of the late Kirby McDowell, Sr. and Irene Rolla McDowell. Brother of Kirby George McDowell, Jr., Hazel Ann McSwain and the late Robert Calvin McDowell. Brother-in-law of Charles LaStrapes, Faye Ankenbruck and Jude Patrick LaStrapes. Grandfather of Elizabeth, Corey, Ryan, Daniel, Julian, Jenna and Jacob McDowell. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP CATHOLIC CHURCH, 8968 Highway 23, Belle Chasse, LA, on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. Interment will follow on Monday in the V.A. Houston National Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Friday from 3:30 P.M. until time of Mass, all at the church.
