When I was a kid I found what I was told was the detonator for torpedoes. It was in an old lot half barried in the dirt. There were a bunch of them. I was also told that by unscrewing the head of the detonator and reversing a disc in there you would have deactivated it. Not true, it was still active. Well we took one home to my buddys home and showed it to his dad who was a chief in the fire department. He called the Army Ordinence Deptartment who came out and got it. Subsequently they sent out a crew to the lot and dug up a bunch of them that was dumped there after WWII. I feel sad for the guy's family in the following article who came on some Civil War Artillery Shells.

When the Wainwright ran aground at the Charleston Grillian, one of the biggest fears was Parrot rifle shells from the guns on Sullivan's Island. I believe they found two of the huge shells. |

Minor nit and for future knowledge...
Ordinance = Law
Ordnance = Munitions
Sorry, after blowing up, burning, and shooting things for the last 25 years you tend to notice this one.
