... in the Carrier thread, I happened to remember that I'd heard a cockpit audio recording of the Tomcat pilots who were responsible for downing two of them. By the way, this is the '2nd Gulf of Sidra Incident' and the Tomcats were from VF-32 (Swordsmen), embarked on USS John F Kennedy. In the '1st Gulf of Sidra Incident' in 1981, the Tomcats involved were with VF-41 (Black Aces) embarked on USS Nimitz

For anyone asking themselves, 'Is this submarine-related?' the answer is: yes! Both MIGs were turned into '1 dive/0 surface' subs. There are more airplanes at the bottom of the sea than there are submarines in the sky!

Get your Quicktime cockpit audio right here! (And tighten your seatbelt - it's going to be a wild ride!)

Thanks for his post........love those 135 degrees off set intercepts, but turned into head on....from the manuevering going on.........sounds like the Migs were under positive air control from land.....which would be standard Russian military training.....fortunately, the USN F-14s ran their own intercepts.....Alfa Mike Foxtrot.....
