At random: The first periscope used by the United States Navy was not built for a submarine. The ironclad monitor OSAGE utilized a periscope to discover a Confederate cavalry unit taking cover behind the high banks of the Red River in Arkansas.

And they all lost their money - Big Brown ran out of gas and finished LAST.
Last report I saw, vets didn't know what happened. No sign of broken bones. Some speculate it was the heat - 93 F & humid.

I can't imagine people betting big money on him at 1 to 4.  People in horse racing that bet big money on 1 to 4 and greater favorites to win, place,  or show are called bridge jumpers.  Their long gone relatives jumped out of skyscrapers after Black Tuesday.

Reportedly 5.69 million bet on him. Jeeze, I wonder why he lost?

No it's because Big Brown is a wise horse.. He figures he has won his owners big $$ already.. He has a long and fruitful life ahead of him as a stud and living on the high like some royality... Race? break a leg and be put down? naaaaaaaaaaaaah!
A horse yes a donkey? no way....
