BARR, Henry Manning, 85, passed away on June 5, 2008. Born April 8, 1923, in Marshall, Missouri, he attended Marshall High School. During World War II, Manning served in the submarine service. He attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City and graduated with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas University. Manning played an active role in many aerospace projects including the Apollo Moon Mission. He is a registered engineer in three states. Manning spent more than 20 years as committee chairman for the Boy Scouts. He was head usher at Saint Madeline Sofie's parish for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Lewis Barr; their four sons, John, James, Robert and David; and seven grandchildren. His funeral will be held at Saint Madeline Sophie's Catholic Church in Bellevue on Tuesday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Madeline Sophie's Parochial School (SMS School, 4400-130th Pl. WESSELS, Russell M., 84, of Sussex, died Friday, June 6, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Russ was born on October 19, 1923, in Buckley, Illinois, to Fred and Emma Wessels. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1941, where he was an outstanding athlete. In December, 1942 he entered the U.S. Navy Submarine Service, and served on the USS Loggerhead (SS-374) until the war ended and he was discharged with honors. After his WWII service, he attended college at Illinois Normal earning his B.S. and later M.S. degree from University of Illinois, Urbana. He spent most of his working years in the field of education, retiring in 1988 from Waukesha County Technical Institute after teaching 20 years in the Marketing Department. Russ's greatest joy was spending summers in Canada at the cottage he built with his sons, fishing and picking blueberries with visiting friends and Canadian neighbors. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Velma L. (nee Getz), his three sons, Richard, Robert and Bradley, his daughter, Carol, grandchildren, Wendy, Reid, Drew and Ken, and his great-granddaughter, Kera. He is preceded in death by his dear grandson, Brady.Funeral Services will be held on Thurs., June 12, at Redeemer United Church of Christ, W220 N4915 Town Line Rd., Sussex, at 7 PM. Visitation at the church from 5 PM until time of Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer U.C.C. or the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha. SCHMIDT & BARTELT A.A.
