I think I've already said that my Buick has sorta died.

Question: Does anyone have an opinion (or knowledge) about the Kia? The new ones start around $10,000, more-or-less. Some SUV types are around $20,000. These are new cars prices. They also seem to have really good warranties; 10 years or 100,000 miles on the drivetrain. Did I say that right? Drivetrain?

Also, need an opinion about 4 cylinder cars, which some of these are. Some models do have six cylinders. Some are stick shifts, which doesn't turn me on, but many are automatics.

A friend who lives in the Seattle area, told me about these cars. Apparently they are advertised a lot out on the coast. They look okay, and some of the info seems okay, but I haven't heard a lot about this brand. Some of the names are Kia Reo, Kia Serento, etc., which leads me to believe that they may possibly come from Spain (or Mexico?)

Help!!

Roy Ator has been driving Kia's for the past several years, and I was not surprised to see his daughter, Robin (The Brat) and her husband driving a new one and parked it in my garage when they were in Galveston for a belated honeymoon cruise this summer. I think Roy would be the best person here to answer the questions you seek. And I like your new pix a lot better than the old one. We all looked a lot better 20-30-40 years ago.

Concur, so I had responded by email... KIA is a quality vehicle imported from South Korea. A major plant is under construction in Georgia for U. S. manufacture.

KIA is a good car. The head car abuser in the family has run her Sophia for six years and 140,000 miles. It was bought used. Is Sarah can't hurt it too bad, it should really be good for someone else.

Kia has a fairly good reputaion here in the San Jaoquin Valley, too. We have 110 F heat in the summer, and the snows of the High Sierras in the winter, and they stand up to both very well.

As to a 4- or 6-cylinder engine, it pretty much depends on what you use the car for. If you are just using it for around town and stuff, the 4-cylinder will probably give you plenty of power and real good gas mileage. If you are doing a lot of trailer-pulling, or carrying lots of family and friends, go with the 6.

I'm glad you like the pix, Doc. I wish I still looked like that. Unfortunately, I don't. Of course, I often wish I had my twenty-year-old body back again. This time I promise to appreciate it. Hey, I'd even settle for forty again.

Cora:
One of the ladies I work with has a new Kia sedan....looks great. Made in South Korea, but it has a lot of Japanese influence in style, engineering etc.....I believe that the Japanese auto industry helped the South Koreans with basics in 1960s. If you are going to keep the car, a four cylinder engine might be fine....Sometimes in a resale the smaller engine is not a selling point...
All depends on what gas is selling for then.....It seems like a few people here on the site drive them, they'd be your best "local" folks to rely upon.

She sure is purty, isn't she? Now, I just have to beat the check to the bank tomorrow.

Think I'll go for a ride.
