A retired man, in the quiet Houston suburb of Pasadena made national news earlier in the year when he ended up shooting two burglars (who turned out to be south american illegals) who subsequently assumed room temperature. In spite of efforts by local activists to make it a racial issue, it was referred to the grand jury.
Harris County finally returned their decision today....NO BILLED him! I understand Mr. .Joe Horn will be on a number of programs on national TV concerning the event. Emotions have been very high on this issue, but here in Houston, Joe gets quite a bit of support and has become a local hero.
Good to see good ol' Texas Justice......
Thanks, Joe Horn! |

So 'NO-BILLED' must be local Tejano slang for no charges down your way? Just curious ... I got no dog in this fight, as they say. For reference, I'm an AZ concealed carry permit holder. When I took the required course, we were taught 'only in extremis when protect your property or life or that of other bystanders' or words to that effect. I understand your guy's case was somewhat borderline. (And yeah - I'm pretty close to the border here in Tucson.)

As I recall (one of my nieces is in Law School), if a Grand Jury finds there are sufficient grounds for charges to be filed, it returns a Bill of Indictment (usually shortened to Indictment, past tense, Indicted). If the evidence and testimony presented do not support the charges being requested, the Grand Jury reports "No True Bill" or "No Bill".
This Grand Jury apparently found there was not sufficient evidence of law violation to support charges. Maybe they took into consideration the US Supreme Court's recent ruling that the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution contains an explicit right to defend yourself and your household with a firearm?
'Course, in Texas there has long been more support for the right of self-defense than in a lot of places further North.

At first read sounds pretty much like a borderline case....."the castle defense" expanded to cover a neighbor's property.
The fact that the gent was deemed "not guilty" was a win for good neighbors......but, both the burglars were shot in the back...
according to the story I read. Of course these guys wre illegals who were criminals in their own SA country. Says more for tightening our borders than jurisprudence.....
