At random: The USS SKATE (SSN 578) was the first vessel ever to surface at the North Pole, when on March 17, 1959 she surfaced there to conduct memorial services for the renowned Arctic explorer Sir Hubert Wilkins.

Anybody know how to get in touch with the Sablefish webmaster? I can't use thier site without letting it first install an ActiveX program. Out of frustration I even followed the steps to see if that would work... no luck. When I write the webmaster it bounces. I'm one step away from jumping off a bridge (we don't have any tall buildings in this area).

I had no trouble on their site:
Here's the address for the webmaster that they list
webmaster@usssablefish.com

Hope this works for you

Been through the whole sight and had no problems other than the sight hasn't been kept up. All the links in the Gallery get a 404 message and the same with the ships store link. BBS has had no activity since 2007. Nice site though. Too bad.

That is the webmaster address that bounces. I can see the first page, but all the boxes on the left have the dreaded red X and I can't open anything. i can see the submarine with the blue background that changes direction, but the big box under that has the red x.

The MAIN page worked fine for me once I enabled pop-up for the site.  Some of the links work, but as Ric said it does not look like there has been any activity in a while.

You might want to check status with Bob McManus, who served on the SS=303
