RE: Looking for artist who did a WWII EB ad illustration.

Some while back I received an email that asked me who it was.

Image is here: http://www.sid-hill.com/history/histsub2.htm

The image is from an EB ad circa 1943.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I just got off the phone with Bob Hamilton the EB Public Affairs guy.
(He used to be with New London Day newspaper.) He didn't have a
clue who the artist might be or how to find out. He said that EB had
cranked out tons of ads and posters over the years and most were
one off individual Purchase Orders and the records for that kind of
stuff from 60 years ago are long gone.

He suggested that perhaps the Nautilus Museum might have an
original with the aritst's name. Ha! From what I understand the NM is
up to their eyeballs in stuff and it is doubtful they even know what
they have stored away.

Anyway --- if someone stumbles upon any info about the artist let me know.

However, I suspect this may be a lost cause.

Just thought I'd bring it up.

Hi Sid,

I know it's a long shot...do they have the original "mock up" of the magazine that it appeared in...or the magazine itself somewhere in their archives? I would assume that if there is one floating around, that they would "credit" his work in the magazine...assuming their archives go back that far. Just a thought.

Sid:
If the Advertising Agency that did the ad is still in existence you can ask them if they know who did the illustration. Most agencies don't let the artists take credit for the work since it belongs to the agency and their client.
