YARBROUGH, Timothy C., MMCM (SS), USN, Ret., 65, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at home after a brave battle with lung and colon cancer. A memorial service with military honors will be conducted by the Rev. Thomas W. Newman at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Salem United Methodist Church in Simpson. Tim proudly served his country for 30 years in the United States Navy. He served all over the world as a member of the Navy's Submarine Service. He retired in 1991 as Chief of the Boat on the Hyman G. Rickover (SSN-709). Tim, formerly of Jesup, Ga., was preceded in death by his father, T.C. Yarbrough; his mother, Pauline Bennett Smith; and his brother, Albert B. Yarbrough. He will be greatly missed by those he left behind, his wife Kathleen Clover Yarbrough; daughter, Heather and husband, Gregg Grillo, of Greenville; three grandchildren, Wyatt Grillo, 13, Miranda Grillo, 12, and Aaron Grillo, 7. He is also survived by his sisters, Weada Joyner and Patricia Jones, both of Jesup, Ga. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tim's name to the Salem United Methodist Building Fund, 785 McDonald St., P.O. Box 218, Simpson, NC 27879.
TURNER, John M., 87, - of Ocean City, passed away, Monday, August 11, 2008 in Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point. Born in Doylestown, PA he had lived in Margate, before moving to Ocean City 46 years ago. He was graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1939, received his degree in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University and had attended M.I.T. and Columbia for radar courses. Mr. Turner was a veteran of the US Navy during World War II serving on the submarine USS Plaice (SS-390) in the Pacific Theater before his honorable discharge in 1946. He received the Bronze Star for bravery during an attack. He worked for Atlantic City Electric as an Engineer and Superintendent of the B.L. England generating station in Beesley's Point, for 30 years before his retirement 29 years ago. After his retirement he and his wife Dorothy owned and operated the Antique Furniture Corner in South Seaville. Mr. Turner was a lifeguard for the Margate beach patrol during the 1940's, was a member of the Antique Collectors Club, St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Ocean City, was Past President of the B.L England Golf Course and a member of the Plaice Submarine Alumni which met every year. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy E. (nee Cardin) of Ocean City, three children: Constance Turner of Binghamton, NY, Carole Milks Turner of Brodhead, WI and Dr. John Mason Turner, Jr. of Alpharetta, GA and three grandchildren: Joia, Anna and Chapman. He was predeceased by a sister: Mary Dodd. A Service of Memory and Love will be offered Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 8th Street at Central Avenue, Ocean City, where friends may call from half past 10 o'clock until time of service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
