I was looking through the "game drawer" where we keep all of the decks of cards, poker chips, etc. and ran across the old bridgepad from my days on Permit. Generally we played on duty nights and sometimes we would play with the two duty officers. Couple of the guys were sonar, one was a spook, and some of the names I remember, but can not put a face or a name to. Up to a point, it was Dave, Mayes, Mr. Oman or Mr. Fortney.......then one night the CO happened to come back to the boat and found the game in the wardroom did not meet with his approval...we were politely but firmly told to leave and the two officers were told enlisted and officers were not to play cards together.....
But it did not stop the duty officers from borrowing the KEM cards and scorepad....there are a series of games where all of the players were O gangers----XO, Phil (Eng), CO, etc. I recognized the handwriting as being Mr. Perkins......i'd guess those games must have been on weekly ops or patrol....you couldn't find more than two officers onboard in port after 4pm.
