COOMBS, Donald "Cecil" Following a long struggle with Alzheimer's, Cecil passed away in the home he built in 1948 with his family by his side on August 17, 2008. He was a life long resident of Bakersfield living in the Rosedale area. He was a proud WWII Vet, serving in the Submarine Service on the USS Silversides (SS-236) from 1943 to 1946. Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Gladys Coombs and his brothers, Maurice and Paul Coombs. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann; son and special daughter-in-law, Don and Suzanne Coombs; daughter, Kathy Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Margaret Coombs; brother- in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Mary Jo Davis and grandchildren, Jeff Hill, Patrick Coombs, Christopher Coombs and Kara Hill. Graveside services for Donald "Cecil" Coombs will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery (3700 River Blvd.) on Wednesday morning, August 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. James Saiki and the staff of Odyssey Hospice, especially Kami, Maria, Christian, Carri and Eli. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Odyssey Hospice. For additional service information, please contact Basham Funeral Care at 873-8200.


SCOTT, Arnold David (Scotty), 87, of Red Lion, PA died on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Facility following a lengthy illness. He was born in Maida, ND, on November 24, 1920, the son of Florence (Carson) and David Scott. He was the husband of Dorith (Lehn) Scott, to whom he was married for 63 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Joanne E Broughton, of Red Lion, a grandson John D Broughton, II of Chicago, IL , two great-grandchildren, Hope Asya-Broughton of Chicago and George AsyaBroughton of Merrillville, IN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson Adrian S. Broughton, two sisters, Ethel M. Enerson and Mary O Lundeby, and a brother Melville A Scott. Mr. Scott served in the US Navy Submarine Service, Pacific Fleet, during WWII and in the Naval Reserves until 1960. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1976. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of York, Rural Letter Carriers Assoc., US Sub-Vets, VFW, and NARFE. Following cremation, a private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Rev. Dr. John E. Morgan his pastor will officiate followed by Military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Etzweiler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of Central PA 3544, North Progress Ave. Suite 205 Harrisburg, PA 17110 or SPCA of York County 3159 Susquehanna Tr. North York, PA 17406 or the American Lung Assoc. S. Central PA Branch P.O. Box 1125 York, PA 17405.
