The USS Diodon SS-349 pulled a long week-end liberty there during "Bucaneer Days" in 1961 (Roy Ator was stationed aboard also)... We had a BLAST with 2 circles of pleasure boats completely around the sub tied up for visiting while we were at anchor under the Jolly Rogers flag which was tied on a raised #1 scope . Female giggles from a darkened Hogan's Alley, other gals helping to peel spuds - you name it a VERY memorable liberty!!! First, and probably the last time I ever had my duty taken for free! |

I'm just back from Orlando playing around with a tropical storm during the VFW national convention. Now John as a trustworthy Chief, please be honest and tell us which of those bionic teakettle boats that you rode had a liberty that would compare to the 'Buccaneer Days'! You've demonstrated such a remarkable memory, I'm sure that you'll recall several??? LOL
