........on my way to a house party this afternoon, I had the pleasure of being run over by a big MACK truck tractor! The guy pulled into my lane right into my left quarter panel and left a huge arc from his lug nuts ground into the body. Had to call 911 since the guy wouldn't stop or pull over. WSP (Washington State patrol) showed up after the 911 call and I had a nice chat with this trooper who could have been no older than 12!! Nice young man, very polite. He was able to get the truck info based on the Oregon DOT plate I could get off the truck. I now have the company name and its insurance company and policy number and have already talked twice with rm about the accident.

It was a really nice house party / Cajun Jam session. Good people, dancing and a 150 year old cast iron pot filled with hot cooking Gumbo cooking over a flame.

Glad you're okay, Ric, and that you got the necessary info off the truck. Having retired from the trucking industry I can tell you that the quality of truck drivers has taken a dive. Trucks have "blind Spots" and accidents, for the majority of them, happen in these blind spots. Blind spots are areas that the truck driver can't see in the rear view mirrors. A quality driver, however, will check these blind spots before changing lanes. When an accident does happen a quality driver will stop and exchange information with the other driver. Not stopping only makes a bad situation worse.

I, too, an glad that you're alright, Ric.

And, Ralph. I had noticed that the quality of OTR drivers had deteriorated, but didn't realize that it correlated with the year that you retired. Now, I know.

ME, TOO...what everyone has said...glad you are OK. Well, we know he's OK...he's thinking about food!!!

I agree with Cora...seems the OTR boys just don't quite have the same quality of driving they used to...nor the patience. Ralph, when they made you a truck driver, they broke the mold!

Well, good to hear you are ok, Ric. Could have been a lot worse, particularly if you hadn't been paying attention!

I hope the trucking company comes through for you.

When I left at 9 last night there was still about ten GALLONS left. I'm sure I could get you some. This pot was ½ and inch thick, at least 3 feet in diameter and 3 feet deep!!!! and only about ½ of the Gumbo made was eaten by those there.

There were folks there taking photos, (as evidence you understand), I' ll see if I can get some copies. I have copies coming of the birthday/retirement party I went to Thursday night at the "Little Red Hen". It's a country bar but one of our Zydeco people has a country band that plays there "Jerry and The PhilBillys". Jerry is behind the bass.

We had about 25 to 30 people there and about took over the dance floor. The party was for these two foxes.

Karen has retired and Catherine turned 50. Envious of both... LOL

Ralph,
Don't put it all on the truckers! I have been driving just an 10 wheeler past couple years and I can testify that most 4-wheelers do not respect the limitations of a truck at all. They must think you can stop and maneuver as quick as they can. Seems like defensive driving is a lost art.

No, Steamboat, that wasn't my intent, BUT, you must admit the quality of truck drivers as a whole has really taken a nose dive. Blue has nerve to talk. Shoot, the whole country of Oz drives on the wrong side of the road. Those lunitics even steer on the wrong side of the vehicle.
Those are a couple of fine looking ladies, Ric. Are you sure you know them and they know you, or did you just snap a picture of two ladies having a good time.

Tpom, doncha know about "Gumbo Helper". They get the floor sweepings from the local fishmarkets, fry or boil them up in a large pot and throw in a 20 box of Gumbo Helper, let simmer all night and voila!
