I think our 6th place is excellent.

The olympics were great. The diving was very good and the gymnastics great also. In the gymnastics, I wonder what will happen if the Chinese are found to have used kids to young to compete.

One of my favorites sports is track and field and the US was dismal in especially field.

Jamaica sprinters emerged as the best in the world.  Great 100 and 200 meter double with world records to me was the highlight of track and field.

Be honest, the Women's Beach Vollyball was the favorite event for male viewers.

Ahhhh, Blue???? Number 19 of 20 is in Perth? Son, let me take you out behind the barn and explain something to you. I think you need to look into a sport activity in a place near your neighborhood.

Nice link Blue.

As Seinfeld once said " a woman's body is a work of art; men look more ape like".

Eileen reminded me that these women could be my daughters.

Any one know the amount of money the Chinese government spent, beginning in the mid 90s, per specific medals to be won by specifically chosen, trained athletes? A couple of months back Time magazine had an article pertaining to this, but can't find it now.

The Chinese govt just "awarded" $51,000. (USD) to each athelete who "won" a gold medal.......even the underage ones.....
These are the same folks who use cyber attacks against the US govt, businesses and military every day.......They remind me of the Japanese in the days leading up to Pearl Harbor......becareful.

check out these figures for estimated money spent per gold medal. I'm NOT complaining, just so fearful of what my great grandchildren might expect if and when China becomes the number one world power.

An Olympic Gold Medal cost us here in Oz $14 million each.

Is that worth it?

How much did an American Gold Medal cost?

Our $14 million could obviously help lots of sick children, the elderly, the homeless........so why do we put so much into our swimmer trying to beat your swimmer? ( and vice a versa )

How do you figure the cost of a medal. The money the USOC collects IMO would be just a starter.  This I assume covers all expenses for sending a team and assistant personnel to maintain a team during the time the team was in China and trainng leading to that.

Any idea how much that was?

Many of our track and field people are or were on fully funded scholarships - should that be included.

America Olympic Committee, through donations, provides expenses stipened to each athletic qualifying for Olympics through national and world competition.

There is no US government funding. Funds for individual US atheletes, who've qualified through championships, are raised via individuals, corporations, families, commmities.

Quite frankly, what the 2008 Olympics opening and closing ceremony, involving thousands upon thousands of programmed Chinese, impressed on me is how very frightened I'm of China as a world power.
