At random: The United States submarine USS TRITON was fitted with twin reactors and was considered the longest submarine ever built until the advent of the OHIO class. The TRITON was designed for a surface displacement of 5,900 tons. Large submarines of other countries have been the Japanese I-400 (5,220 tons), and the French SURCOUF (2,880 tons).

On Saturday October 11th, the American Legion of Pelham NY will honor the 65th anniversary of the loss in battle of the USS Wahoo commanded by Dudley "Mush" Morton.  After the war CDR Morton's family moved to Pelham and the children graduated from Pelham Memorial High School.  His son Doug Morton plans to attend the event which is planned for 11 AM at Pelham's Veterans Memorial Park on Fifth Avenue.  The US Navy is planning to support the event.

Pelham is located adjacent to New York City in Westchester County and is easily accessible by Metro North and Route 95.  More information will be posted on www.legionpost50ny.com or email to Ken Kraetzer at kgk914@aol.com
