DENNING, Donald R., 72, died of cancer at his home surrounded by his family on September 1, 2008. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2008 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW, Altoona, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the church. Donald was born in Des Moines and had lived in Indianola since 1978. He was a disabled veteran of the US Navy and a member of Iowa PVA and the American Legion. He enjoyed building things and was good with mechanical things.

He will be missed by his loving wife of 36 years, Mary; daughters, Kim (Paul) Schem, Cindy Mosier, Mona (John) Vaydik, Lori (Michael, Sr.) Harmison and Carrie (Steve) Heidebrink; 3 sons, Jim (Valerie) Denning, Ronnie (Kim) Denning and Jeff (fiance, Julie Finn) Denning; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gary (Gail) Denning and Ray (Carol) Denning and sisters, Judy (Lou) Yacinich and Joyce Brown. Memorial donations may be made to Iowa PVA.

"D.R." was a MM1(SS), auxiliarymen, who repoerted to Archerfish (AGSS-311) from Remora (SS-487) on 11/9/1963. He transferred to ComSubRon ONE on 12/1/1966. I always looked forward to visiting with him at our Archerfish reunions, as he sure could tell neat sea stories. Sailor rest your oar... save me a rack in the alley!

Jeez!  September 9?  Talk about predicting the future (or in this case predicting the lack of a future....).

Bill - Glad you caught that. I was beginning to feel as though I'd slept too long - or - missed a few days!
