At random: The USS SKIPJACK was the first submarine designed from the keel up for top underwater performance using nuclear power. An earlier SKIPJACK was the first U.S. submarine to cross the Atlantic ocean under her own power (Newport, Rhode Island to Ponta Delgada, Azores, in 1917). |

Seems appropriate. Met some interesting people and learned (or reinforced) that people who ride Harley's are a very friendly and interesting group of people. I'm hooked. Somehow Don Gentry and I will be linking up and taking a ride through the mountains. Didn't see any deer today but did see some Sand Hill Cranes and a couple of Bison; Bison are becoming popular food animals around here. I guess if I hit one of them the customers will be wondering why the meat has a faint taste of diesel and cordite.

Somehow, the sound of a Harley and bagpipe music just doesn't go together!!!! :-) It has to make folks take a second look! Edited by Stoops 2008-09-07 5:51 PM

Cora Yep; that would be me. Can't let a little thing like a broken leg slow me down; good thing I'm not a horse or they would have shot me. Edited by Doc Gardner 2008-09-08 4:31 AM

Master and Commander Posts: 1814 Location: Boydton, Virginia | Subject: RE: Took the first practice ride for the big one next year Ain't got training wheels, but we actually got some old pharts that use a mounting block to get in the saddle (and no, I don't, yet). BTW, Doc, if you want a good ride, come on down and do the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is really beautiful, 45 MPH speed limit, mostly no other traffic (except during color season) and nice rolling ridgetop country road with no commercial traffic. I ain't never road a cycle, but everytime I am on the Parkway, it seems like it is just made for a motorcycle. It is nearly 500 miles long, from Shenandoah NP to Smokey Mountain NP. Senior Crew Posts: 192 | Subject: RE: Took the first practice ride for the big one next year heh heh heh, yeah, I know what ya' mean, at the Academy it's either a Harley or a scooter and most of the ones riding Harley's are Navy vets, only a couple "Coasties" man-up enough to ride a Hog... I was thinking about coming back this year, but decided to save vacation time this year so that next year I'm in a use or lose situation and be forced to take all 5 weeks of my vacation, so it'll be at least once next year, probably in August.
