OK, I went on line in '94 with the first Mozilla browser, (predating Netscape1.0), and watched as the net grew. I became appalled as the first banner ads began appearing on the sites I went to They offended me and still do to this day. I made one mistake early on and thinking I had a real alert clicked it. It was a an ad. I have since that time patently ignored online advertising have neither looked at or pay any attention to any commercial online advertising. I never watch TV ads either. I mute the TV or flip around to other stuff of just walk away. I support PBS and public non-advertising radio or watch Netflix. Does anyone else feel this way or am I just the original nut case?

Yep, what you said Ric.... mute commercials (much to the consternation of CINCHSE), listen to NPR, subscribe to Netflix, yatta, yatta. It really bugs me that broadcast TV ads all YELL at me. I am not that hard of hearing! Mary sez I should just bloc them out of my mind, but I find that hard to do.

I filter all my TV by recording on a DVR and ff rhru the commercials. A 60 minute show has about 20 minutes of buy me in it.

For me, it's not the ad or commercial itself that's upsetting. Some are very entertaining and funny. I simply don't enjoy being told what doctors 45 mpg deodorant flavored tampon shouldn't be used with lite lemon scented hemorrhoid soothing alcohol for more than four hours without consulting him over and over and over and over..........................................................................................................................................................over.

Thank goodness the election season is upon us because political advertising makes such great TV viewing.

A glutton for punishment, aren't you?? My thumb is very strong..when I get a chance to watch TV.. sometimes the ads are better than Dora, etc. (my little girl's fave show among many...)

Ads on web pages are one of several reasons I use FF with Adblock add on.

TV commercials are why I record every thing I watch. And then Quick Skip through the commercial. I have a button programmed on my Harmony remote that will skip ahead 2 minutes. And that's never enough.

And speaking of Netflix, has anyone else tried getting movies from the Red Box machines?

Some commercials are entertaining, like that latest one for Planter's Peanuts. Cracks me up every time I see it.
You can google-planters peanut commercial- and see it there.

I'm with Pete and Myron... jump through all commercials.

I have Dish network's dual tuner receiver so, for example, I watch two network news programs at 6pm. I pause one, watch the other until the first commercial break, then switch to the paused station. I use the 30 second "jump" button, pressing it 4 or 5 times quickly to eliminate the ads. It takes 40 minutes to watch two 30 minute programs without commercials.

So, Ric, others feel this way too and I'll concede that you may be a nut case (as was mentioned = SS) but not sure about "original".

Redbox has become a regular thing under this roof. Heather lives by it. Can't beat the price.

Thanks a LOT, Gary! All the camp's focus guys zeroed in on that little sentence and now they're gonna triple the campaign ads.

As others have said, Netflix is a savior, given that network TV truly is a vast wasteland nowadays. We watch the news and weather, TiVo anything that we deem worthwhile so's we can FF thru the commercials ... otherwise we do Netflix. Beats paying for the premium channels and we get what WE want to see.
