CASRIEL, Ronald B., 76, died September 9, 2008 in Torrance, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. A native of San Francisco, Ron was most proud to have been an alumnus of the famed Lowell High School in the class of 1950. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. One of his many accomplishments was to have earned the coveted Silver Dolphins, emblematic of the Submarine service. He was proud to have been a crew member of USS Remora (SS-487) during 1952-1953. Following his service, Ron matriculated at San Francisco State. He earned a BA in Accounting in 1956. After a first career in public accounting with Ernst & Ernst, Ron became the Controller and later Vice President and Treasurer of Occidental Petroleum. He retired in 1992. He was most respected within his profession. Ron was privileged to have been chosen by his peers for a term as President of the National Association of Corporate Treasurers. In retirement, he devoted himself to charitable and civic causes. He was a tireless worker for the Children's Bureau of Southern California and for Goodwill Industries. Ron served as President of Children's Bureau and was honored to have been presented with their Humanitarian award in 2004. Ron's two avocations were golf and travelling the world with his college sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Helen. He also leaves his adoring children, Caren and Richard, his adored sister, Joyce Elijah and brother-in-law, Dr. Lester Elijah, his son-in-law, John Pappas, and two nieces and a nephew. Plans are pending for a private service at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. Sometime later, a reception celebrating his remarkable life will be held. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made either to the Children's Bureau of Southern California or to the charity of one's choice. Green Hills Mortuary (310) 831-0311
