DEMBITSKY, John, 83, of Winter Haven, FL died Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Winter Haven Hospital due to heart failure. Born September 11, 1925 in Forrestville, PA he has been a resident of Winter Haven since 1980, having moved here from North Cape May, NJ. He was a firefighter and retired from the Philadelphia Fire Dept. A veteran of WWII, John served in the U.S. Navy on submarines. He earned his Dolphins aboard the USS O-4 (SS-65) in 1945. He was a life member of SubVets WWII, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winter Haven; a member of Disabled American Veterans in Lakeland where he was very active and served as a service officer; a member of the V.F.W; a member of American Legion Post # 8 in Winter Haven; and a member of the Winter Haven Moose Lodge. Preceded in death by his son, John Dembitsky, Jr; he is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Patricia Dembitsky; five daughters, Jane D. Owens of Villas, NJ, Faith Turton of Toms River, NJ, Julia M. Burner of Cape May Courthouse, NJ, Pearl Tittor of Villas, NJ and Mary Dembitsky of Etters, PA; a brother, Michael Dembitsky of Rochester, NY; two sisters, Anna Czap of Bethlehem, PA and Julia Schappell of Fairless Hills, PA; fifteen grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm till 7:00pm, Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven. A Rosary Service will be at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am, Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:00pm in the Florida National Cem-etery with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Navy. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winter Haven. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.oakridgefuneralcare.com.


SHIRLEY, Jr., Gerald B., "Jerry", 76, of Louisville, KY passed away Monday, June 16, 2008. He was born January 27, 1932 in Floral Park, NY to the late Gerald B. Shirley, Sr. and Anne Cope Melahn. He was a retired vocational teacher at Jeffersontown High School, a retired Lt. Commander in the United States Navy, member and officer of the Submarine Veteran's Association, and an active member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Gerald Niel; and a brother, Robert Shirley. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patsy Ann Stockton Shirley; two daughters, Ann Niel (Mike) and Elizabeth Joerendt (Larry); grandchildren, Kyle and Rachel Niel and Sean and Sarah Joerendt; brother, Richard Shirley and sister, Carol Ann LeMieux, both of New York. His funeral will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 330 N. Hubbards Lane, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 6-8 pm Wednesday, Ratterman's, 3711 Lexington Road. Memorial gifts in memory of Gerald may be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church or to Hosparus, Inc.
