The Greek government doesn't take to kindly to the CO & crew abandoning ship leaving the passenges to fend for themselves. Last time in the Agean Sea a ferry crashed into rocks near an island while the CO & crew were palying cards. NO ONE on the bridge. CO immediately thrown in jail....

I think that cruise ship sinking happened several years ago off Africa, down near South Africa somewhere. And, the officers and crew did abandon ship and left the passengers to fend for themselves. If I remember, the CO and some officers got rather harsh sentences..

I googled it and found out it sunk in 1991. The Capt and some of the crew were found guilty, but did not say what the penalty was. John396
