When I was a kid I remember Don Winslow of the Coast Guard. So when I saw one of our members of the BBS with that name it triggered those memories so I looked it up and learned, or maybe re-learned, that Don Winslow was in both the Navy and the Coast Guard. Anybody else remember that stuff? Maybe Crystal can come up with some of those old videos. Edited by Doc Gardner 2008-10-13 2:23 PM

Don was Jack's announcer on radio and TV. That is what popped into my mind before I realized it was the wrong last name.

Ray "Olgoat" Stone has VHS tapes of several of the complete serials. Back right after WWII, there were two brands of very popular children's shoes Buster Brown (Brown Shoe Company out of St. Louis) and Red Goose shoes....I your Mother bought you Red Goose shoes, they came with a Don Winslow funny book....the sonuvabitches could be cramping your toes and warping your instep but if you got a Don Winslow comic book and got to stick your feet in that fluroscope and see your toe bones, the shoes were perfect. Inventorying your toe bones and checking out how Lt. Winslow was doing outsmarting Nazi spies was all it took to bring you a smile. On radio Don Winslow was brought to you by Ovaltine. Now, will someone sign my qual card? DEX

Master and Commander Posts: 1455 | Subject: RE: Question for Don Winslow and anybody else who remembers It was a serial that ran in the movies on the Saturday matinee. That was when the kids mostly went to the movies back when. There was a Don Winslow of the Navy and also Coast Guard. I can't remember which came first. They were also on early TV. I never missed it if at all possible. It sure confused my very young mind with the service branch switch. They were good shows either way.

Apparently the comic strip, then the serial had him in the Navy first and then the Coast Guard later in the war. I still haven't found the reason for the switch. I rememember Don Wilson from the Jack Benny show and it wasn't him.

I have enough problems trying to remember things I should easily remember, and you drag stuff up that I definately can't remember. I'm driving through Sasser the other day, the windshield is dirty, so I pull the washer lever. Nothing happens, I pull it a couple of more times and still nothing. Next thing I know, blue lights in the rearview. The Georgia State Patrol wants to know why I am flashing my high beams. Then it dawns on me, I'm in the Jeep, the washer is on the right. In the Honda the washer is on the left. Oh well, at least I know the washer isn't broke.

Only a bush or a tree would constitute a rest area. No, I was passing through a small town at the time. Why did you ask? Is it something like tapping your foot in a bathroom stall?
