Most organizations die from atrophy...the hardening of the arteries resulting from failure to seek continuous improvement, inertia and form a small parasitic internal group... a small very vocal element of nay-sayers who find fault with suggtestions, proposals and fresh ideas. Conversely, organizations...all organizations are kept wound up and on track by an extremely small percentage of its' membership. There is always a small group of dedicated sparkplugs who keep good organizations hitting on all cylinders. The respect in which these hardworking SOB's are held tends to tamp down a lot of the negative reaction. The loudest nay sayers, are folks who make damn little or no contribution to the overall health of the outfit....they are the requisite moaners, groaners, whiners and complainers...They are easy to identify, they never make ANY contribution to pot-luck dinners, after event clean-ups, pass-the-hats....or visitation to those on the binacle list. In time, folks who begin by making suggestions, submitting fresh ideas and making an attempt at organizational improvement...cool to the concept after repeated attempts are constantly tamped down by negative bombardment, before given the consideration of collective examination all such submissions rate. After a while such outfits become eat, burp and scratch your butt gatherings that give birth to boring characteristics that cause the membership to drift away. Before you torpedo a well meant suggestion, examine your motives and ask yourself," When was the last time I made a suggestion intended to improve my organization or supported a proposal put forward, enthusiastically?" Thanks DEX

You are right there, Dex. You can ask anyone that organizes reunions for our Boats about that. It's a full time job trying to satisfy every ones wants and needs. Suggestions are always welcome and go a long way in making a reunion a successful one. Obviously, all suggestions can not be done for various reasons and it is very important that those folks who submitted suggestions that aren't used don't get their feelings hurt and go around undermining what was decided on or stand there with thier lower lip stuck out.
It works like a team. Everyone can't be the Captain or the Quarterback. Someone has to be the Center with the Quarterback tickling his ass.
