At random: Dollar for dollar and man for man, the submarine is the country's most economical weapon. Comprising only 1.6 percent of the Navy's World War II personnel, the submarine service accounted for 55 percent of all enemy shipping destroyed.

Become declassified??? while looking up the timeframe that I rode her (thought I rode her on an EastPac in the early 90s) I came across pics of the bow after she hit the mountain with OUT the tarps over her nose.. This post was from April '07 and I thought the Navy squashed ALL of the pics on the internet about her without her tarps on her damaged bow.

I doubt that they've been declassified, Darrin. That said, I'm sure I'm not the only submariner around who snagged copies of those photos, back when they briefly appeared, and stored them on their own computers for personal perusal. What's downloaded can be uploaded, eh? I never would, since I know better, but ... other people have different ethics.

Interestingly, the official site for that Naval Sound lab up in some Idaho lake actually had a photo of a modern sonar sphere being lowered by crane for testing. I can't find the site now, so can't verify if it still exists.
