CUDNEY, Ronald Eugene, 57, passed away October 16, 2008, at his home in Eureka, California. He was born September 16, 1951, in Scotia, California. Ron was previously an employee of Honest Engine in Eureka for 26 years and past employee of Humboldt Bay Forest Products. He served four years in the United States Navy on the submarine USS George Washington. He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Cudney of Rio Dell, CA. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, mother Kristeen McDonald, brother Ed (JoElla), sister Linda (Jim) Barsanti. Ron also leaves behind his children Teanne and Travis Duval, Christopher and Kaitlin Cudney and 3 grandchildren, Jordyn and Kianna Cain of Sacramento and Ezequiel Jones Quijas of Grants Pass. The family wishes to thank Ron’s Hospice help and nurse Scotty Mateu, for their kindness and care. In lieu of a funeral or graveside services the family is planning a Celebration Of Life for Ron next month. REDDING, C. Gary, 63, died October 17, 2008, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. He was born in Salem, Mass., on Aug. 29, 1945, to George and Rita Redding. He was raised in Peabody, Mass., and graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School. He attended St. Anselm College. Mr. Redding was a veteran of the US Navy and served aboard the submarine USS Quillback (SS-424), stationed in Key West, Fla. Prior to his retirement last November, he was employed by the New Hampshire Union Leader as the transportation manager in the circulation department. Mr. Redding had previously been employed as a production supervisor at GTE-Sylvania in Manchester. He is survived by a son, Craig Redding and his wife Sabrina of Buxton, Maine; three grandchildren, Cody, Calvin and Owen, all of Buxton; and also Janice Redding of Bedford. Following cremation, a memorial reception is Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., corner of Hanover Street. Private burial will be at a later date. SCHEDIN, Harold R., 83, of Pine Grove, passed away on Sunday morning, October 19, at his home. Born on October 17, 1925, in Elizabeth, N.J., he was the son of the late Nils T. and Ebba Lindahl Schedin. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Roselle Park, N.J. He graduated from Union High School, Union, N.J., in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the Navy, requesting submarine duty. He completed boot camp and gunners mate school in Newport, R.I. He was sent to New London in January 1944 and to Portsmouth Navy Yard in March 1944 for new construction of the USS Segundo. He commissioned her May 9, 1944. After shakedown and training through Panama Canal to Pearl Harbor and Pacific, he made five war patrols, ending up in Tokyo Bay for the grand finale. He left the USS Segundo March 1946 for return to civilian life. He was a member and past president of the World War II Submarine Veteran's Association, Gudgeon Chapter, New Jersey. He enjoyed going to conventions, seeing old shipmates and meeting new ones. He worked with his father as a wood flooring contractor in repair and installation. He was active in wrestling and in 1942 was an AAU Eastern State champ wrestler. At the age of 49, he received his black belt in karate. He also taught Ishun-ru karate. He was also active in Cub Scouts and Pop Warner. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Szeliga Schedin; three children, Jeff and his wife, Cheryl, Schedin of Effort, Bonnie Benner and John Schedin, both of Pine Grove; four grandchildren, Michael Schedin, Daniel Schedin, Madison Benner and Richard Benner III; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Amber Schedin and Jillian Schedin; a sister, Barbara Woeher of Red Hill, Pa.; six nieces and nephews, Steven Schedin, Holly Nagy, Jil Schedin, Robyn Woeher, Wendy Manning and Eugene Woeher. A brother, Alex Schedin, preceded him in death. A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Mastapeter Funeral Home Inc., 400 Faituote Ave., Roselle Park, N.J. Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, in the Church of the Assumption, Roselle Park, N.J.; 139 S. Tulpehocken St. Pine Grove, Pa.

WEAVER, Rufus Jack, 81, of 77 Adelaide St., New London, passed away on Saturday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. He was born March 8, 1927, in Louisville, Ky. He was the son of George H.A. and Jennie Mae Washington Weaver. Mr. Weaver is a US Navy Veteran serving in the submarine service, retiring as a Chief, and was one of the first black submariners. Following his military service he worked at Pfizer. In 1965, Mr. Weaver invented and held a patent for a wheelchair that can climb stairs. Survivors include his wife, Margurerite A. Weaver, sons; Charles Weaver of Danbury and Eric Weaver of New London; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Katherine and two sons, Henry and Jimmy Weaver. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. The Rev. Wade A. Hyslop will officiate. Burial is private and there are no calling hours.
