FOLEY, James A., 82, LCDR, USN, Ret., of St. Petersburg, FL passed away October 23, 2008. Born August 7, 1926, in Woodlynne, NJ, he served 27 years in the United States Navy. Jim qualified on the USS R-13 in 1944 and went on to serve on the submarines USS Ray, USS Cubera, USS Halfbeak, USS Sea Leopard, USS Pomodon, USS Medregal, USS Swordfish. He was an active member of the US Submarine Veterans of World War II and US Submarines Veterans, Inc Tang Base. Upon retirement, he served as director of engineering for Humana Hospital of St. Petersburg. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Eckerd College at the age of 81. He was a charter member of the St. Petersburg Half Century Softball club, as well as the Kids and Cubs. He is survived by his 3 sons Dennis M. Foley of St. Petersburg, Kevin P. Foley of Atlanta, GA and Terry J. Foley of Weeki Wachee; 3 sisters, Mary Barklow and Margie Ferraro of St. Petersburg, and Jeanie Parker of Mt. Laurel, NJ. Jim had 26 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at the Bay Pines Veterans Cemetery on Nov. 4, 2008, at 12:45.


GIANNELLI, Frank A., 84, passed away Wednesday October 15, 2008. He was born in Brooklyn, NY May 30, 1924 the son of James and Frances (Corona) Giannelli. A Norwich resident for the past 25 years, Mr. Giannelli had been employed at Electric Boat Co. of Groton for 30 years, retiring in 1993 as a Ship Superintendent. He was a career man in the U.S. Navy, enlisting December 1, 1942, served aboard the USS Flying Fish during World War 2, and was honorably discharged October 23, 1963 with the rank of EN1(SS). Mr. Giannelli was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church Taftville. He is survived by his son Michael Giannelli of Waterford, three daughters Brenda Giannelli of Durango, CO, Pamela Giannelli of Ledyard and Lisa Giannelli of Waterford, and three grandchildren, Darrien, Melissa and Spencer. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Johnson) Giannelli.
