BOWERY, Jr., John A., 85, formerly of Okeechobee, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008. Mr. Bowery was a native of West Palm Beach, a graduate of St. Ann's School and attended the University of Florida. Prior to his retirement and move to Okeechobee, he was employed by McLaren Construction Co. and later was with AG Holley Hospital in Lantana. He has held membership in the Knights of Columbus and The American Legion, and continued his Fleet Reserve membership. His service record included three years of submarine duty during World War II, one year in Vietnam and twenty-five years with the Naval Reserve Construction Battalion RMCB 6-17. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes Bowery; sisters, Sister John Loretto Bowery, Loretta Randolph, Louise Smith, Bernice Helena Good, and Sarah Carraher. He is survived by two sisters, Frances Bowery of Adrian, Mich., and Martha Tosti of Bumpass, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, with Scripture Service at 7 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Ga. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Father Bill Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the Knights of Columbus of Okeechobee.

SALINAS, James Peter (Sal), 72, died at his home in Sebastopol on October 26, 2008. Born April 27, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA. Grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, one of 10 children; Member of the US Navy, Submarine Radioman aboard the USS Rasher (SS-269); Retired plumber and entrepreneur and business owner in Sebastopol. For many years, active volunteer in Sebastopol City Government, including Sebastopol Planning Commission and Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce. He was also a long time board member for the Sebastopol Sea Serpents swim team. (Sal) is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sue, and by his son Michael Salinas and his wife Connie, and his daughter Katy Salinas. He is remembered for the love of his grandchildren Brett Salinas, Julene Renee, Summer Motiska, Aura Glenn and her husband Oliver and grandson Terry Turchin. His greatest joy was for children. He was a wonderful "Papa" to his beloved great-grandchildren Zoe and Xander Renee, Olivia and Sophia Turchin. He is also survived by eight brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at Pleasant Hills Memorial Park, 1700 Pleasant Hill Road, Sebastopol Saturday, November 8, at 11:00 a.m.
