CARLSON, Yngve W., 88, died on November 5, 2008, in his home of 48 years in Green Oaks. He was born in Chicago on March 10, 1920, but lived in Lake County, Illinois all his adult life. He graduated from Grant High School, Fox Lake in 1938. Mr. Carlson earned his living as a mechanic. He was employed as a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic at the Naval Air Station, Glenview, IL for 25 years before retirement. During WWII he volunteered for the Submarine Service of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Ronquil (SS-396) in the Asiatic/Pacific area. He had a lifelong interest in classic cars and planes and was an avid reader of Naval history. He loved to sing and was an active member of the Waukegan Swedish Glee Club for 50 years. Affectionately nicknamed "Cris", he was a loving husband and father with a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen (nee Bilinski); son, Jay "Sam" Carlson of Green Oaks; daughter, Janice (Ty) Krolicki of La Grange Park, IL and daughter, Julie Carlson of Green Oaks; and grandson, Thaddeus Krolicki; he is survived by a brother, Robert Carlson of Seattle, WA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Bert Carlson; and sister, Alice Anderson. Burial arrangements will be private. Contributions to Alzheimers Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950 are suggested.
