At random: On August 17, 1958, the USS SKATE circumnavigated the globe in about fifty minutes. The SKATE was at a radius of about two miles from the North Pole at the time, and the distance traveled in the circumnavigation was about twelve miles.

Subject: Thank You To My Shipmates

All,

I just wanted to say a quick "Thank You" to all my Shipmates here who sent emails and sympathy cards this past week om the occasion of my mother-in-law passing away.

I've always said that Submariners take care of their own. My wife now believes it - in spades.

The kind words and outpouring of sympathy made a hard time a little easier.

Once again, Thank You.
