At random: "I don't know why we have to be down here on this hold down exercise(at the 60th hour). Hell, I went through this on the Thresher (SS 200) during WW ll with a Nip Sea Going Tug hooked onto our screw guards, trying to lift our butts out of the water. They didn't get us then, and these Tin Cans (ours) ain't going to get us now." -- "Hambone" Hamilton SD1 (SS). "Hambone" made 13 war patrols on USS Remora, SS-487, uttered these words in July 1957 during a hold down exercise off Kobe Japan.

FYI: The Daily Picture feature is now shut down on rontini's BBS at his request  He felt that we were advertising on his board (48 years and I still can't understand this guy) - - soooo Mr. Gentry becomes the "world's only" source for these efforts... O.K. with you Don????

It ain't the GRAMPUS Joe. If you look at some of the older pics of GRAMPUS available online, there was an additional mast fairing added on the starboard side aft on the sail.

Yep, she had been up here at the Keyport Base (R&D area) for quite some time until it became apparent that she just couldn't be of further use - kind of sounds like the same old story... Her demise was just prior to the Sailfish and now the Trout (in Phily), the last of the last... Thank God they saved the USS Dolphin SS-555. I wonder if we can tour her in September at the USSVI Convention in San Diego? (Mr. Householder?)
