BISWELL, Sr., John 'Rodney', 72, of South Portland died on November 9, 2008. He was born on September 27, 1936, the son of James Harvey and Lola Aardath (Hartshorn) Biswell. Rod served his country in the United States Navy as a submariner for 20 years. He retired from Bath Iron Works as an electrician. Rod is predeceased by his parents; and a brother Roger Biswell. He is survived by a daughter, Beth Tremblay, sons Jack, Reid and John Biswell; a sister Susan Kayser, a brother Michael Biswell; and six grandchildren. A period of visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 12-1 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. funeral at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland, where Pastor Greg Carter of the Seventh Day Adventist Church will be officiating. Burial will be Monday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m., at the Maine Veterans' Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. Online condolences may be sent to: www.ctcrawford.com. CLARK, Donald V., CWO3, USA, 37, of Newton passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 15, 2008, in Mosul, Iraq, protecting and serving his country. Don was born in Boardman, Ohio, on September 12, 1971, to Donald and Linda Clark. After high school, he joined the Navy, serving as a submariner, and then later continued his military career with the Army, primarily as an aviator and flight instructor on the OH-58D. He met and married Jamie Johnson of Memphis, Tenn., in 1991. His passions were his family, his friends, flying, his horses and his Harley. He will always be remembered for his wonderful smile, his big heart and love of life and his ability to make everyone feel appreciated and respected. Don has been a long time resident of Newton and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Jamie Clark; a son, Bailey Clark; his parents, Donald and Linda Clark; a sister, Dina Bode; a son, Jonathan Coradini; daughters, Brittany Collins, Danielle Barton; grandsons, Jackson Collins, Caleb Barton; sons-in-law, Andy Collins, Michael Barton. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Sunset Memorial Park with the Rev. David Willis officiating and Robert Byrd directing. CLINE, Roy I., 82, formerly of 161 Crestwood Drive, died the night of November 20, 2008, in Edison Manor. Born February 17, 1926, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Arthur R. and Edith Newton Cline.He married the former Etta Snyder on Nov. 17, 1951. She preceded him in death.Mr. Cline retired from the General Motors Lordstown plant in 1988. He had been a welder for 15 years.He served in the Navy during World War II as a torpedoman’s mate, third class on the submarine USS Brill (SS-330). He received the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one star, American Area Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with one star and Victory Medal. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working outdoors and in the garden. He was a member of the Union Township Bocce League and collected old toys.Mr. Cline was Lutheran.Survivors include one daughter, Diane Bartley of New Castle; one son, William C. Cline of Richmond, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Cawthon; and five brothers, George, Homer, Arthur E., Cecil and Blair Cline.Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Nero officiating. CLINGERSMITH, Leonard John, 83, of Niagara Falls, NY, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at home, surrounded by his family, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was born March 27, 1925 in the Village of LaSalle, NY, the son of the late William D. and Ann (Barr) Clingersmith, attended local schools and was a 1943 graduate of Trott Vocational High School. He entered the U.S. Navy, March 16, 1943 and served in the Submarine Division on the USS Ray (SS-271) and USS Bream (SS-243). He received the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal 2 Stars, Submarine Combat Pin w/1 Gold Star, American Medal, Philippine Liberation w/1 Star, Victory Medal, and was honorably discharged February 23, 1946, with rank of Gunner’s Mate Second Class. Returning from the service he went to work at Hooker Chemical Co., Buffalo Ave. plant, and was called up from the Naval Reserve back to active service aboard the USS Sabalo (SS-302) from April 3, 1951 to September 28, 1952, returning to Hooker Chemical Co., and retiring in 1982 as a process supervisor. Leonard was one of the founders of the local Grenadier Chapter of Submarine Veterans of WW-2, life member of National Chapter of Submarine Veterans of WW-2, Oxy Retiree Club, Retired Men’s Bowling League at Bowl-O-Drome and former Deacon and Trustee at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and loved his dogs. He is survived by his wife, Isabella G. (Garry) Clingersmith of Niagara Falls, NY, whom he married December 7, 1946 at First Presbyterian Church; daughter, Nancy J. Dunlap of Niagara Falls, NY; brother, William P. (Jeannie) Clingersmith of Niagara Falls, NY; grandchildren, Julie (David) McGovern, Garry (Rina) Dunlap, both of Niagara Falls, NY, Jennifer, Samantha Cosgrove, Alexzandra and Kyle Zorich of North Tonawanda, NY; great-grandchildren, Natalie Dunlap, Matthew and Kyle McGovern, Timothy, Skyler, Rayanna, Vincent and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen J. DeKanski and sister, Joyce Clingersmith. Friends may call Sunday, November 23rd from 4-7 PM at Zajac Funeral Home, Inc., 319-24th St., cor. Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be held Monday, November 24th at 11:30 AM, with Rev. Robert Bellingham officiating, and Military Honors to follow. HICKERSON, Peter Thomas, 82, of Lake Placid died peacefully Thursday, November 20, 2008, at his Sylvan Shores residence comforted by his cousin, Ann and Good Shepherd Hospice. Pete was a native of New Jersey, born to Ms. Margaret and Peter, May 22, 1926, in Patterson. He joined the US Navy at a very early age and served aboard a submarine during World War II. After being honorably discharged, Pete became a salesman. He settled in Miami and worked as a pharmaceutical representative and later was a rep for Braniff Airlines which he was most noted for. Pete came to Lake Placid from Miami in 1982. He loved traveling. Pete is survived by his sister, Katherine Bieger of Avelon, N.J.; cousin, Ann C. Mayo of Miami, three nieces; and three nephews.
