ANGELICH, Mirko "Babe" (1925-2008) passed away November 21, 2008. A native of Los Angeles, he joined the United States Navy at age 18 and served as quartermaster on the submarine USS Tuna (SS-203) during World War II. After the war, he went to work for Standard Oil, and ultimately owned and operated a Chevron station and auto repair business for more than 35 years. Babe's twin passions were golf and cards. He played to a single digit handicap and excelled on the links and at the poker table. Some of his happiest times were spent enjoying Pinochle with his buddies. Throughout his life Babe made friends wherever he went, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Babe was predeceased by his wife Glenda, and he is survived by sons Chris and Craig, grandchildren Nicholas, Christen, Ryan, Kyle, Elise and Marissa, brother Robert and sister Desanka. Services will be held Tuesday, November 25, at 11:00 a.m., at Green Hills Mortuary, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca 90275.

GRAHAM, Woodrow Wilson (Woody), passed away on November 5, 2008. He was born on a farm near Eldon Missouri to M.B. and Ida Graham on December 22, 1917. He was the youngest of four sons - Carl, John, and Jack (also deceased). He has two younger sisters - Nellie and Dean. He went to a country grammar school and Eldon High School where he graduated class valedictorian (1935). He attended the University of Missouri from 1937 to 1941 and graduated with a BS degree in Agriculture. After graduating, he immediately went to Midshipman School at Northwestern University and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S Naval Reserve in September 1941. His first duty was at the Naval Torpedo School, Keyport Washington. After completing the school, he was assigned as Officer in Charge of Field Torpedo Unit in the Aleutian Islands. After 15 months, he was ordered to Washington DC via Keyport, Washington where he met his future wife Ruth G. Turvey. Upon arrival in DC he asked for submarine duty and was ordered to the Submarine School in New London CT. Ruth met him there and they were married in a small church by a Navy Chaplin on March 25, 1944 - a marriage which lasted for sixty years, until Ruth passed away on January 7, 2004. After Submarine School, he was ordered to the Pacific and made three successful cruises aboard the USS Gato (SS-212). He was present on the Gato at the signing of the surrender of the Japanese at Tokyo Bay, in August 1945. At the end of the war he was promoted to Lt Cmdr and decided to make the Navy a career. His next assignment was the USS Diablo, SS-479, based in Panama. Ruth contracted polio, but she recovered and went on to raise two lovely children, Pam and Bruce. After Panama, Woody was ordered to the USS Runner (SS-476) and then to Command and Staff School at Newport, RI. Following this, he was assigned to the staff of Commander Amphibious Force - Atlantic. In 1956 he was ordered to the staff of the Naval War College at Newport. In 1959 he was ordered to command Submarine Division 22, in New London. Following this command, he was assigned to the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C., as Polaris logistics officer. Returning to sea duty, he was assigned to be the commanding officer of the USS Point Defiance (LSD-31) home-ported in Los Angeles, and participated in the war in Vietnam. For this duty he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, with Combat V. He as then ordered to the staff of the Commander US Pacific Fleet as logistics officer from October 1965 to February 1968. For this duty he was awarded the Legion of Merit. Then it was back to the Atlantic as Commander of Amphibious Squadron Twelve. His final Navy assignment was Commander, Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado CA. Following this assignment, he retired from the U.S. Navy after 31 years of service. He is survived by two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be cremated and laid to rest beside Ruth at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on December 12th, 2008 at 10am with full military honors.
