PATTERSON, Larry, 68, of Manhattan, KS died December 18, 2008, at his residence. He was born April 8, 1940, in Concordia, Kansas, the son of Robert and Jeanette (Beaureguard) Patterson. Larry graduated from Bradley High School in Bourbonnais, Illinois in 1958. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1960 and had served on the USS Scamp submarine with his brother. He was an electrician and was discharged in 1966. He then worked for the federal government as an electrician and worked in Egypt, Kenya, Africa, Israel and Russia. Following his work with the government he was the supervisor of the greenhouses at Kansas State University until his retirement in 2007. Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge in both Texas and Africa, and also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. In October of 1996, he was married to Patricia A. Thomas. Mrs. Patterson survives of the home. Additional survivors include two stepchildren: James Thomas (Jenifer) of Topeka, and Jennifer Thomas (Brian Mulden). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gary Patterson in 2005, and by two nephews. Cremation is planned with memorial services to be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, Dec. 22nd, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Neil Engle officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Hollis Cemetery in Hollis, KS. Online condolences may be left for the family through the funeral home website at www.ymlfuneralhome.com. Memorial contributions may be made to PRN Home Health & Hospice of Wamego. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502. Larry Patterson

The Patterson brothers, who served together on the same submarine, have my gratitude for their service to our country.
